ARANMULA PARTHASARADHI TEMPLE
Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple, situated at Aranmula in Pathanamthitta District of Kerala, is dedicated to Lord Krishna. He is referred by the name Parthasarathy. The sacred jewels of Lord Ayyappa are taken from here to Sabarimala.
According to popular beliefs, a temple was built by Arjuna-one of the principal characters of the epic Mahabharata- at Nilackal near Sabarimala. The idol of the presiding deity was transferred to Aranmula in a raft made from six pieces of bamboo. This place hence acquired its name, which means six pieces of bamboo. The present day temple is situated on the banks of Pampa River.
This temple is noted for its architecture. The temple is enclosed by walls on all sides. There are four towers facing in four different directions. A flight of 18 steps leads to the eastern tower. One can descend to the Pampa River by a using a stair of 57 steps from the northern tower.
